Role Overview
Econopack Industries is seeking an experienced and meticulous Payroll Officer to manage and oversee payroll functions across the organisation. The role requires a professional with deep knowledge of payroll practices, attendance management systems, and Sri Lankan labour law. Reports To: Human Resources Manager
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the full payroll processing cycle — collecting, verifying, and processing employee attendance, overtime, deductions, and allowances accurately and on time every month
- Ensure all employees are paid correctly and on schedule in accordance with company policy and Sri Lankan labour regulations
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date payroll records, employee master files, and salary history documentation
- Calculate and process EPF/ETF contributions and submit statutory returns to the Department of Labour and relevant government bodies on time
- Manage the attendance and payroll management system — inputting data, generating reports, and resolving system-level discrepancies
- Ensure full compliance with the Wages Boards Ordinance, Shop and Office Employees Act, and all other applicable Sri Lankan labour laws
- Prepare and submit payroll summary reports, cost reports, and variance analyses to management
- Handle payroll-related employee queries professionally and maintain strict confidentiality of all payroll data
- Assist the HR Manager with employee documentation, leave management reconciliation, and HR compliance activities
Requirements — Essential Skills, Knowledge & Experience
- Minimum 3–4 years of experience in a similar payroll officer or HR role within a manufacturing organisation
- Passed G.C.E. Ordinary Level (O/L) and Advanced Level (A/L)
- Completed an HRM Certificate level course from a reputed university or institute (CIPM / IPM or equivalent preferred)
- Strong knowledge of general payroll practices, procedures, operations, and Sri Lankan labour legislation
- Proficiency in spreadsheets, Excel formulas, data extraction, report generation, and summary analysis
- Well-versed in MS Office package and sophisticated Attendance & Payroll Management Systems
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight monthly payroll deadlines
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
- High level of confidentiality, integrity, and professional ethics
