Role Overview

HNB PLC is seeking a qualified and experienced Accountant – Tax to join their Finance Division. This specialist role is responsible for the bank’s tax compliance, tax planning, and liaising with tax authorities. The successful candidate will bring deep technical knowledge of Sri Lanka’s banking taxation landscape.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare, review, and file all tax returns for HNB PLC including income tax, VAT/S-VAT, WHT, economic service charge, and other applicable taxes
  • Ensure full compliance with the Inland Revenue Act No. 24 of 2017 and all CBSL regulatory requirements for licensed commercial banks
  • Manage tax provisioning, deferred tax calculations, and tax-related disclosures in financial statements under SLFRS
  • Conduct tax research and provide technical tax guidance to management on proposed transactions and business decisions
  • Liaise with the Department of Inland Revenue, tax consultants, and external auditors on tax-related matters
  • Support tax due diligence for banking products, new services, and corporate transactions
  • Monitor changes in tax legislation and regulatory guidance and assess impact on the bank
  • Prepare tax planning strategies to optimise the bank’s effective tax rate in compliance with applicable law

Requirements

  • Associate Member of CA Sri Lanka, CIMA, or ACCA (mandatory)
  • Full or part qualification in a taxation course conducted by The Institute of Taxation of Sri Lanka or CA Sri Lanka will be a distinct advantage
  • Minimum 2 years of post-qualifying experience in tax, with exposure to taxation in the banking and financial services sector
  • Experience in a reputed audit firm (Big Four or top-tier national firm) is highly preferred
  • Excellent command of the English language (written and spoken)
  • Strong analytical skills with high accuracy in financial data
  • Self-motivated with effective interpersonal and negotiation skills
