About the Department of National Community Water Supply
The Department of National Community Water Supply (cd;sl m%cd c, ie,iqï fomd¾;fïka;=j) is the Sri Lanka government department responsible for planning, developing, and managing community-based water supply schemes across rural and semi-urban areas of the island. The department works to ensure safe and reliable drinking water access for communities outside major urban centres, implementing water supply projects, rural water systems, and community-level water management programmes island-wide.
Position: Sociologist (Limited) — iudc úoHd{ ^iSñ;^
The Department of National Community Water Supply invites applications from suitably qualified Sri Lankan citizens for the post of Sociologist (Limited). This is a limited recruitment (internal/limited category) permanent government post. Sociologists at the Department play a vital role in community engagement, water user group formation, social assessments, and facilitating community participation in water supply development projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct social assessments and surveys for community water supply project planning
- Facilitate the formation and capacity building of water user groups and community-based organisations
- Promote community participation and gender mainstreaming in water supply projects
- Assess socio-economic conditions of target communities to guide project design
- Prepare social safeguard and community engagement reports
- Liaise with local government bodies, NGOs, and community leaders
- Support training and awareness programmes for communities on water conservation and hygiene
General Requirements
- Relevant degree or qualification in Sociology, Social Science, Community Development, or a related field from a recognised university
- Experience in community development, social work, or water/sanitation project implementation preferred
- Good communication skills in Sinhala and/or Tamil; English proficiency an advantage
- Willingness to work in rural and field-based environments island-wide
