About the role

NDB Bank is hiring a Senior Manager (Independent Risk Reviewer) for its Risk Management Department. The post is at Manager level. The job holder leads the independent review of Business Banking credit proposals and checks that credit decisions follow the bank’s approved Risk Appetite, Credit Policies and regulatory requirements. The role also covers oversight of portfolio quality, emerging credit risks, risk ratings and impairment trends, and management of a team of credit risk professionals.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead the independent review of Business Banking credit proposals and give timely, consistent risk observations and recommendations that follow the Credit Policy, Delegated Lending Authority, Risk Appetite Statement and regulatory requirements
  • Advise on and challenge complex credit proposals, policy exceptions and higher-risk transactions, and check that borrower risk ratings (RAM) match each customer’s risk profile and the rating methodology
  • Escalate material credit concerns, policy breaches, emerging portfolio risks and risk concentrations to senior management
  • Monitor Business Banking portfolio quality independently: delinquency trends, watch-list accounts, early warning indicators, portfolio migrations, sector concentrations, underwriting weaknesses and Stage 3 impairment trends, and recommend ways to reduce risk
  • Help develop the Credit Policy, Impairment Policy, Risk Appetite metrics and other credit risk frameworks
  • Find gaps in credit processes, controls and governance, and work with Operational Risk and other stakeholders on fixes
  • Lead automation and digitisation projects that improve productivity, consistency and reporting
  • Lead, coach and develop the Credit Risk Observations team, building a risk culture based on independence, sound judgement, effective challenge, regulatory compliance and continuous learning
  • Run knowledge-sharing sessions and credit risk training for business lines and internal stakeholders
  • Make sure the independent credit risk review function follows approved governance standards, regulatory expectations and internal policies

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Banking, Commerce, Finance, Economics, Accounting, Credit Management or a related discipline
  • Professional qualifications in Banking, Risk Management, Finance or Credit are an added advantage
  • At least 15 years in credit risk management, credit assessment, corporate or SME lending, or credit approval, including significant exposure to Business Banking or SME portfolios
  • Experience in a leadership, supervisory or people management role is an added advantage
  • Sound knowledge of regulatory requirements, prudential guidelines and credit risk governance practices
  • Ability to use independent judgement and challenge constructively
