About the Role

Lakeland Inter American School Matara is seeking a qualified and passionate Biology Teacher to join their dedicated academic team. The successful candidate will teach IGCSE O/L Biology (9-1 Series) and will play a vital role in inspiring students to develop a deep appreciation and understanding of the life sciences.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver high-quality, engaging Biology lessons in accordance with the Cambridge IGCSE (9-1 Series) curriculum.
• Develop creative and student-centred lesson plans that cater to diverse learning needs and styles.
• Maintain effective classroom management and a positive, stimulating learning environment.
• Assess student performance through regular tests, assignments, and practicals, providing timely and constructive feedback.
• Monitor student progress and provide additional support or enrichment activities as needed.
• Collaborate with colleagues to contribute to curriculum development, school events, and departmental initiatives.
• Maintain accurate student records and prepare reports for parents and school administration.
• Participate in professional development activities and contribute to the ongoing improvement of the school’s academic standards.

What We Are Looking For

• Strong knowledge in Biology with the ability to communicate complex concepts clearly and effectively.
• Demonstrated experience in teaching the IGCSE curriculum, preferably at O/L level.
• Excellent classroom management skills with a firm but positive approach to discipline.

Requirements

• Degree or professional qualification related to Biology or Education (e.g. BSc in Biology, B.Ed., or equivalent).
• Previous experience teaching IGCSE Biology is preferred and will be given priority.
• Fluency in English — both spoken and written.
• Ability to create engaging and student-centred lessons that promote critical thinking and curiosity.
