What to include in a CV for Sri Lankan employers

  • Contact details: your full name, phone number and an email address you check daily.
  • Education: A/L and O/L results, degrees, diplomas and professional courses such as AAT. Several ads on CareerLK name specific qualifications, so list yours exactly as awarded.
  • Work experience: job title, employer, dates and what you did. If this is your first job, list part-time work, volunteering, internships and class projects.
  • Skills: software you have used, such as MS Office, QuickBooks or an ERP system, and your level of English and Sinhala. Many ads ask for both languages.
  • Referees: several ads ask for 2 non-related referees. Confirm with them before you apply.

Before you send it

Read the “How to apply” section of the listing first. Some employers require an exact email subject line, for example “Intern – Digital Marketing”. Others ask you to name the post or the branch you want. Keep your CV to 1 or 2 pages, check the spelling of the employer’s email address and attach the file with your own name in the file name.
