Role Overview

The Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) is inviting applications from qualified Sri Lankan citizens for the post of Tug Sailor. Tug Sailors are a critical part of SLPA’s marine operations team, assisting in the manoeuvring of vessels within the harbour using tugboats. This is a permanent government post with EPF and ETF benefits. Applicants must be physically fit and capable of swimming.

Key Duties

  • Assist in tug boat operations within the Port of Colombo harbour
  • Support the safe manoeuvring of vessels entering and leaving the port
  • Maintain the cleanliness, safety, and operational readiness of the tug vessel
  • Carry out all assigned marine duties under the supervision of the Tug Master
  • Respond promptly to marine emergencies and safety situations
  • Adhere to all port safety regulations and SLPA operational procedures

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Should have passed the G.C.E. (O/L) Examination in the required subjects
  • Must have the ability to swim
  • Must be a citizen of Sri Lanka
  • Must be physically and mentally fit to perform marine duties
  • Applicants should possess excellent character
  • Selected candidates must pass the required practical test and interview
  • Selected candidates must pass the medical examination
  • Government and Corporation employees should apply through their respective Heads of Departments
