Role Overview

Elsteel is recruiting a Trainee Data Entry Operator to join their Research & Development (R&D) and production documentation team. This is a detail-oriented role that involves entering, verifying, and maintaining technical data in the company’s ERP system — working with BOMs (Bills of Materials), part numbers, technical specifications, and engineering drawings. The role requires someone who is comfortable working with structured technical data in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Job Profile — Key Responsibilities

• Enter and update technical data in the company’s ERP system — including BOMs (Bills of Materials), part numbers, product specifications, and engineering revisions
• Verify data accuracy by cross-referencing entries against technical documents, engineering drawings, and specification sheets
• Perform data cleaning, correction, and standardisation tasks to maintain consistent, high-quality data across the ERP database
• Collaborate with the engineering, production, and R&D teams to ensure accurate and up-to-date data records
• Flag data discrepancies or quality issues to the supervisor for review and resolution
• Maintain organised electronic filing of all technical documents and ERP input records

Requirements

• Passed GCE A/L or an equivalent qualification
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy in handling large volumes of technical data
• Excellent teamwork and communication skills — ability to coordinate effectively with engineering and production teams
• Basic proficiency in MS Excel — ability to work with structured spreadsheets and data tables
• Ability to understand structured technical data and follow standardised procedures consistently
• Excellent command of English — required for reading and processing technical documentation
• Candidates living close to Katunayake will have a strong added advantage
• Detail-oriented individuals who are comfortable working with structured technical data in a fast-paced R&D environment are especially encouraged to apply
