About Berendina
Berendina is a Sri Lankan group made up of two organisations. Berendina Micro Investments Company Limited (BMIC) was the first licensed microfinance company (LMFC) to be regulated by the Central Bank of Sri Lanka under the Microfinance Act No. 06 of 2016. Berendina Development Services (Gte) Limited (BDS) is a development organisation that works to reduce poverty among vulnerable and marginalised communities in rural and plantation areas. The group runs 38 branch offices across 13 districts and is Great Place to Work Certified.
This vacancy is for a Junior Accounts Executive at the Head Office in Nawala.
Role overview
This is an early-career finance post that sits close to the group’s compliance and donor reporting work. Because BDS is a development organisation, part of the job involves preparing reports for donors on time, alongside the usual general ledger, reconciliation and statutory payment work.
Key responsibilities
- Check staff and administration payments against approved budgets
- Prepare and maintain monthly general ledger and bank reconciliations
- Make sure EPF, ETF, tax and other compliance payments and returns are filed on time
- Prepare MIS reports, monthly accounts and variance reports
- Prepare donor reports within deadlines
- Support process improvements and documentation
- Carry out other duties assigned by the Line Manager
Qualifications and experience
- A degree in a related field together with AAT, ICASL, CIMA or ACCA (full or part qualification)
- At least 1 year of relevant experience
- Experience with accounting software is an advantage, with QuickBooks preferred
- Good MS Office skills, especially Excel
- Good written and spoken English
- Below 30 years of age
