Seylan Bank is hiring a Pawning Associate / Pawning Officer for its Mullaitivu branch. The role focuses on building capability, making sound decisions, and strengthening outcomes for customers through the bank’s pawning operations.

Job responsibilities

  • Assay pawned articles by densimeter or touchstone without exposing the bank to risk or loss
  • Handle pawning redemptions, interest payments, and part payments in the pawning system
  • Monitor pawning non-performing advances (NPA), overdue accounts, and recovery management
  • Keep overdue below 1% of the base and NPA below 0.5% of the base at any given time
  • Balance all General Ledger accounts related to pawning daily
  • Balance the pawning in/out register daily and at month end
  • Ensure physical verification of all articles monthly, per existing guidelines
  • Initiate and engage in promotional activities for the branch to grow pawning volumes and reach targets
  • Handle auctions and auction-related work promptly, following circular instructions
  • Support the branch’s advances portfolio growth and meet assigned targets

The person

  • Minimum 2 to 5 years of experience in banking or finance, including 2 to 3 years in pawning
  • Full or partial professional qualification in banking is preferred
  • Strong analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and special projects supporting the Pawning Unit
