Role Overview

WIS BPO is seeking an experienced Accounts Assistant to support UK accounting clients with bookkeeping, VAT processing, and cloud accounting administration. The ideal candidate will have strong experience using Xero and QuickBooks Online, a solid understanding of UK VAT requirements, and the ability to maintain accurate financial records across multiple client engagements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform day-to-day bookkeeping for UK-based clients
  • Process sales invoices, purchase invoices, receipts, journals, and bank transactions
  • Prepare and maintain accurate accounting records using Xero and QuickBooks Online
  • Set up new clients on Xero and configure accounting systems as required
  • Manage and maintain Xero tracking categories, tracking options, and related functionality
  • Complete bank, supplier, and balance sheet reconciliations
  • Prepare VAT returns and ensure compliance with HMRC requirements
  • Review transactions to determine VAT treatment and identify allowable and disallowable VAT claims
  • Assist with month-end bookkeeping processes and client reporting requirements
  • Liaise with internal teams to resolve bookkeeping and VAT-related queries

Essential Requirements

  • Minimum 2–3 years’ bookkeeping experience supporting UK clients
  • Strong working knowledge of Xero and QuickBooks Online
  • Experience setting up and managing clients within Xero
  • Experience using tracking categories and related Xero functions
  • Good understanding of UK VAT rules and HMRC requirements
  • Ability to identify allowable and disallowable VAT claims
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Good communication and organisational skills
  • Professional fluency in English, with excellent communication skills (reading, writing, speaking)

Preferred

  • Experience working within a UK accounting practice or outsourced accounting environment
  • Xero Advisor Certification
  • Exposure to Dext, Hubdoc, Sage, or similar cloud accounting applications
